Making soap in Austin, Texas. About our Soaps
Making soap.Making soap.Making soap.Washing the dog.

Why is that? It's because the FDA won't let you call it soap, unless it's really soap! Detergents are not soap! (Maybe your dry, itchy skin is telling you that right now…) Next, take a look at the ingredient list on that detergent bar – it probably contains things like triethanolamine (a detergent found in a well-known transparent facial bar), sodium laureth sulfate (a detergent also used to increase lather, found in a popular line of scented clear soaps ) and imidazolidinyl urea (a formaldehyde-releasing preservative found in a major brand of baby bath). How great does that sound for your skin?

So, why do these so-called "soap" manufacturers sell detergents instead of making real soap? Because mass-produced detergents are cheaper. End of story. Why not ditch the detergent and see what our handmade soap can do for you?

At our Austin, Texas production facility, we handcraft soaps that have luxurious lather and leave your skin feeling soft and clean without the harsh chemicals. How do we do it? Simple… we start with 100% all natural soap derived from vegetable oils such as coconut, palm and safflower oils. There are no detergents, surfactants, or sulfates; no hardeners or fillers, and no preservatives. All our soaps contain high percentages of glycerin, a natural moisturizer, and are non-comedogenic, so they won't clog your pores. They're great for hands, faces and bodies of all skin types, ages and stages – even sensitive skin.

In addition, many of our soaps may have extra premium ingredients added to further pamper your skin. These include Olive Oil, Goat's Milk and Shea Butter for moisturizing, Oatmeal for exfoliating and moisturizing, and Aloe Vera to soothe irritated skin. Mama Says Wash! soaps are scented and colored with only the highest quality ingredients, including 100% pure essential oils, all-natural colorants, and cosmetic-grade colorants and fragrances. And, of course, our soaps are never, ever tested on animals.

There are lots of choices when it comes to buying handmade soaps. You may have seen them at your local farmer's market or at a craft show, or even in your local grocer. Many of these are excellent quality soaps. So, what sets ours apart? Just take a look - most of the handmade soap on the market is nothing more than a boring block of soap. At Mama Says Wash!, we believe that bath time doesn't have to be boring! We strive to make our soaps not only great for your skin, but also artistic and fun. We're not just a chip off the old block. We're Good. Clean. Fun!

The best days at Mama Says Wash! are when a customer tells us how using our soaps has changed their lives! This is why we do what we do. I'll admit – I first started making soap because it was fun and I could make it look pretty and smell good. But, I continued making it because I saw firsthand the benefits of using handmade soap. Several members of my family suffered from dry, irritated skin, but after a month or so of using my handmade soap exclusively, the problems just disappeared. No more expensive prescription steroid creams; no more slathering on pricey, messy lotions, no more fussy, itchy kids; and one happy Mama.

Over the years, we've heard similar success stories from parents of children dealing with eczema, people with chronic dry, itchy skin, radiation and chemotherapy patients and people just looking for a soap that cleans without stripping all the natural oils from the skin. We've heard from happy dog owners too – our dog soap is 100% all natural and can help calm your dog's itchy skin and keep him smelling fresh and clean.

At Mama Says Wash!, it's our mission to create….
